Inspired by the traumatic death of 27 primates due to electrical fire. I had the gift of studying John the Silverback intensively for years, experiencing life changing moments of observation and engagement with him at the Philadelphia Zoo. The fall before he passed away, he claimed me as a member of his troupe and charged any male zookeeper that came near me when I was studying him after that point. This was the first piece I did as a memorial to the sudden, heartbreaking loss of that amazing, powerful, stoic and gentle being.
