Instruction

Private and Institutional Instruction

In my youth I worked with the National Art Honor Society, running the program in my senior year of high school. In 1982 we ran short classes for elementary and junior high school students. That is where my love for teaching art was formed. In my young adult life I was a lead designer in an ad firm, working with younger designers and giving presentations to the board with national and global clients.

Educational Subjects

This was a great foundation that helped expand my confidence with mature groups. I’ve enjoyed teaching adults privately and through institutions since 2003. Selected class groups are highlighted as follows.

Educational Subjects Include:

  • Animal Architecture
  • Assemblage
  • Animal Drawing
  • Animal Sculpture

Teaching Experience

Teaching experience includes Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Main Line Art Center, Wayne Art Center (PAFA credit), MALT and independent study out of the artist’s studio.

Animal Ecorche:
The Fox

Ecorche is the study of a figure with the skin removed to display the musculature. I work the figure up from the bone and build the form starting with tendon and muscular insertions. The figures shown are of a life-size fox inspired by a beautiful female who I observed periodically. She had a den in my neighborhood and my early morning walks were periodically brightened by her passing presence. She was sadly struck down by a car in 2017. When I found her, I was heartbroken. Carefully, I removed her from the roadway to a secluded spot near her den. When nature cleaned her bones, I gathered them to use as a training aid for my students.
