Inspired by a dream I had where a 40’ tall, monumental black dog soared above me. I floated up and around the form looking closely at the powerful, contained canine guard. As I rose higher, where I thought there was a mask was in fact a section where the eyes and a portion of face were removed. As I looked down into the vast open space that was his interior, I considered the endless space within him. In that moment there was an explosion of light that burst through his form in razor shards of light in all directions. I realized no matter how strong or fierce his enormous body was his greatest strength existed within his vast interior. This drawing was my second attempt to decode that dream. I wanted to explore the strength of that interior, ephemeral essence. In this depiction, I explored his structure, the ancient origins of dogs, the boundless expanse of his inner life and the magic it held.
