Inspired by the skulls I fell in love with when I saw Georgia O’Keeffe’s steer and deer skull paintings. I wanted something simple but true to the form. This form was created after a visit to the rodeo when I was mesmerized by the intensely powerful and animated steers that dominated the evening. I thought about humanity’s preoccupation with dominating animals in every engagement with them. The exquisite grace of the spinning, lurching bulls had me entranced and became part of this piece through a less characteristic smooth approach to resolving the surface of the form.
